We’re not saying Gmail isn’t an excellent piece of software; we’re saying that there are better alternatives to Gmail you may not have heard about. For example, the storage space is limited, and you can’t access two of your Google ID at the same time. The software also automatically syncs some of your information across platforms, which you may not want.

The most useful integration is the calendar. All your events are easily synced with the Outlook calendar, so it’s straightforward to share events and coordinate meetings.

Outlook also syncs your contacts, which may not sound that useful, however, if you are unlucky enough to lose your phone or computer you can make sure all your contacts and saved. This way when you log in to outlook on a new device, you can directly download all your significant numbers.

This emails system is particularly useful with Windows because it works well with your calendar, contacts and even skype which are already on your computer. Also though it integrates with other apps, you don’t have to worry about being spied on because Outlook doesn’t use targeted ads by reading your emails as Gmail does.

Outlook also offers a full 5GB more storage space than Gmail at 15GB per free account.

Microsoft Outlook is included in Microsoft office or you can open a basic email account for free. The business accounts cost from £7.90 a month up to £9.40 a month for the business premium.

Thunderbird is a great email client brought to us by the creators of Mozilla Firefox.  The best features of this account are that it’s completely free and allows you to connect as many email addresses as you like. There’re also no targeted advertisements, so no sneakily reading your emails, and no requirement to upgrade your account at any point.

The interface may seem a little overcomplicated. However, the reason for this is customization. You can use Thunderbird in conjunction with other apps and decided what features you need your email client to display. If you want a simple email client, then there are better options for you like Outlook or Yahoo! Mail, but if you want a programme with more features (which are still free), then this is a great email system for you.

3. Mail for Windows 10

If you’re a Windows user then this system is unavoidable, you will have come across it. It’s built into Windows which means it’s effortless to access. It’s a simple email system and when you log in to Windows with an Outlook, Live or Hotmail account it will be automatically added to the email client. It also automatically integrates with the Windows calendar on your computer, and you can quickly add other email accounts like Yahoo! Mail and Gmail.

It’s a great little piece of software already built in for many computers. However, it’s best used for personal email accounts.

The prices for the business version are the same as Outlook. However, this is a system better used for simple email and calendar tasks. We wouldn’t recommend this one for complicated business purposes because there are many email alternatives with more useful features for that type of work.

4. iCloud

Apple’s iCloud is brilliant for Apple devices. That’s because it works with all of your Apple devices and easily syncs across your systems. iCloud also has the bonus of being advert free. Its de-cluttered interface is simple to use and great for personal accounts. With this one, you also get 5GB of free storage space, and the email account itself is free to use.

So, if you have an iPhone, or other Apple devices and need a personal email account, then this software is ideal. It’s easy to use and means less hassle with transferring accounts across your devices.

5. Filestage

Yahoo! Mail has lots of great features which make it a better alternative to Gmail. The most important of which must be the massive 1TB of storage space which comes free with every Yahoo! Mail account. This one is brilliant if you’re a fan of customization. Not only can you customize the interface, but you can also artistically personalized emails thanks to Yahoo! Mail Stationery.

Be careful:

They will discontinue your account if it’s not used for six months, so if you don’t use your email often then maybe choose another client just in case!

This system does have lots of useful features like being able to block senders you don’t want to see in your inbox and is excellent at recognizing and preventing phishing emails. It also has an excellent calendar service and an instant messenger. All in all, it’s a useful free email account well-suited for personal use particularly if you like to customize your inbox.

7. eM Client

Although you may not have heard of it, eM Client is used by lots of big businesses including the likes of Toyota and McDonalds. It’s easy to bring over your emails from other accounts, and it has an instant chat system included.

The best features of eM are the advanced options. Not only do you have a translation feature built in, but it also has features like delayed sending. On the downside, you can just have two email accounts with the free version, but the pro lets you connect unlimited accounts. You can even have a free 30-day trial of the pro version to test if it’s for you.

The Pro version is €35.94 but for business use, it works out at around €43, but it is a useful piece of software for commercial use because of the advanced features included.

8. Mailbird Lite

You’ll be amazed how easy Mailbird is to set up and use. You can add apps for scheduling, transferring files and instant communication which makes it a significant bit of communication software. You can even connect it to your social media which is great for having contact photos.

It only allows you to have one email account, but it has so many other communication features that it may well be worth it for you if you just need one email account.

You can pick up the pro version for about €44 which gives you added options such as multiple accounts and customization.

9. Opera Mail

Opera is an internet browser which now has a standalone email service, Opera Mail. It’s a completely free alternative to Gmail that comes with a range of customization options and allows you to sort your messages as much as necessary. This is great for staying organized.

A particularly useful feature of Opera Mail is the email templates. These are great for business use, rather than wasting time to type out the same emails you can quickly find a template to get you started.

10. Mailspring

Mailspring is a desktop app which can access any email accounts you’re already logged in to on the web, without having to fuss about with passwords. It has an attractive interface and allows you to undo sent emails within a set window of time, great for any email mishaps. Mailspring is an in-between programme, can be useful for personal use or business, so a good one to consider for small businesses.

You can only connect a maximum of 4 email accounts with the free version, and the Pro version will just set you back $8 a month. The pro version does have some nifty extra features like scheduling emails, set follow-up reminders and snooze emails. The pro version also has templates which are great for saving you time.

11. Zoho Mail

Zoho is a great customer relationship management tool for business users, so it stands to reason that their email service would be excellent too. It’s great for integration with your other apps and has an ad-free interface. You can have 5GB of free storage space as well as 10GB of document storage ability.

Zoho Mail isn’t designed for personal use, but it is a much better alternative to Gmail for any business. There are so many features which help you get work done, such as filtering your emails, extra-plugins like group calendars and tasks and using a custom domain name. It’s also one of the few business email programmes which can be used for free, or the professional version is only $6 a month.

There are lots more alternatives to Gmail, but these are just a selection of our favorites.
